Teachers

Dominique Pandolfi

Maui Yoga Teacher DominiquMy first exposure, and awareness of yoga began as a kid growing up in a hippie home in the middle of the forest in Southern Oregon. My mamma had, and still has, a daily asana, pranayama, and meditation practice. Although she was always encouraging, and interested in sharing these teachings, it took me almost 30 years before I would find the simple, but potent gifts of yoga for myself. I discovered at a young age gymnastics and ballet, which became a powerful outlet for my creative expression and desire to move my body. Competing in gymnastics at a national level until the age of 19. At that point I moved to Maui, immediately searching out a dance class, and found one that combined a fun mix of creative movement and core strengthening. After 6 months, the teacher moved off the island leaving me in charge of his class. Twenty-two years later, my passion for teaching and deep love for the movement arts, has lead me on a powerful journey experiencing many modalities and self-study. In 2000 I began a comprehensive study of the ancient art and science of yoga with Eddie Modestini and Nicky Doane. In 2004 I became a teacher at their yoga studio on Maui, Maya Yoga. I have traveled with them as an assistant at workshops, and have recently been included as an instructor on staff for their teacher trainings. I continue to further my education taking classes with them whenever possible. Other inspirations for my teaching and self-practice are the writings and teachings of Sri T.Krishnamacharya , B.K.S Iyengar, and Mark Whitwell. I continue to be awed and humbled by the offerings of this beautiful practice. The simple awareness of breath, and how it has the potential to drop you right into the realization and recognition of source. “God is the breath inside the breath” – Kabir

Kay Huckabee

From the first class the beauty and integrity of the Iyengar approach to Hatha yoga rang true to me. The dedication and skill in instruction inspired me to attempt to follow in the footsteps of this lineage of teachers, the work of BKS Iyengar. His freshness his joy in yoga is just as present today as when I first met him in 1984 in San Francisco. He took one look at me and said “This woman has arthritis in her shoulders.” He proceeded to take me to a set of stairs and had me take a backbend (Urdhva Dhanurasana) with my hands on the upper level of stairs and feet on the ground. By placing the hands higher than the feet the action in the upper back and shoulders came alive! This hallmark of observing and using everyday props to capture the essence of the pose is part of his way of helping any person capture the elements of yoga. The elements of Yoga? Health, happiness and a bright spirit!
I have been most fortunate to have Manouso Manos and Kofi Busia as my earliest and continuing instructors. It is due to their most profound teaching that I have been able to develop and continue a 27-year practice of Iyengar Yoga.

Jennifer Lynn

Jennifer was born and raised in Santa Cruz, CA. She earned a B.A. in Math and Computer Science from San Jose State University and worked as an engineer for Hewlett Packard for many years. On a yoga retreat on Maui in 1996 she had an awakening that prompted her to leave the corporate world and seek a more natural lifestyle. Jennifer Lynn has been practicing yoga for 15 years and teaching for 9. Her experience is that yoga is a never-ending awakening of deeper and deeper levels of personal potential in the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual realms. She received her first teaching certification from KaliRay TriYoga. From there she began studying with John Friend and has embraced the Anusara principles of Alignment. She also studied with Shiva Rea and enjoys the dance-like vinyasa flows of modern ashtanga. Her studies with Duncan Wong and Matthew Coen got her hooked on the power of moving from the core. Jennifer has synthesized these styles into her own style called Wisdom Flow Yoga which artfully blends the feminine flow of spinal waves and graceful transition with the masculine precision of optimanl alignment and core strength. Her desire is that through her teaching others recognize their power and potential. To learn more about Jennifer Lynn or to purchase her DVD visit http://www.yogawithJenniferLynn.com
